It’s no wonder Surfbort was one of the handpicked collection of great bands originally signed to Cult Records, the indie label founded by Julian Casablancas of The Strokes/The Voidz. Surfbort was recently picked up by Iconic rock producer Linda Perry to be part of her new partnership with streaming giant SOUNDCLOUD, releasing the new album ‘Keep on Truckin’ in October of 2021. “There probably isn’t a single word in the English language that describes this feeling that Surfbort captures on Keep On Truckin’. It’s like smiling with a fat lip or winking with a black eye or laughing with a set of bruised ribs. The spirit of perseverance, finding some semblance of happiness after taking a mental/spiritual/literal beating. This theme throughout Keep On Truckin’: from the album’s title to “Life’s A Joke” (“Nothing’s going my way today, but it’s okay”) to the closer, “Cheap Glue,” a mid-tempo song that sees Dani vow to do “anything to help you find a solution” to a friend’s broken heart.” - HOLLYWOOD LIFE. The music video for “FML” features comedian and band leader/drummer of Late Night with Seth Meyers, Fred Armisen who walks around doing good deeds all day then transforms into each member of the band saving them from their extreme depression. Pro-skater, Lizzie Armanto makes her directorial debut and co-stars in the music video for "Lot Lizard," releasing in January 2022 and Tony Hawk is slated to star in the video for "Open Your Eyes." Singer, Dani Miller also recently guested on the GROUPLOVE track ‘Just What You Want’. Surfbort also starred in the 2019 Pre-Fall GUCCI campaign, performing at the press event and is featured in the FILM DIRECTED BY GLEN LUCHFORD. Singer Dani Miller is also the star of the launch of the worldwide campaign for GUCCI BEAUTY. Drummer, Sean Powell was the inspiration behind the lead Character the Academy award winning film, Sound of Metal. Es gibt Songs, die einem schon beim ersten Hören ins Gesicht springen – und „Gravedigger“ von SUCK gehört eindeutig in diese Kategorie. Eine E-Gitarre, die sich genüsslich durch eine Stahlplatte zu sägen scheint, eine kurze Drum-Salve, und dann prescht die gesamte Band voran, getrieben von Sängerin Isabell, deren Stimme aufs Tollste pöbeln, schreien, singen und zischen kann. Der melodische, breitkreuzige, aber niemals testosteron-übersteuerte Sound der Band aus Kassel pegelt sich dabei irgendwo zwischen tiefer Black-Sabbath-Liebe und 70s-Punk-Verneigung ein. SUCK klingen dabei, als hätten sich sie bei den Aufnahmen noch eine Wagenladung Fans mit ins Studio gestellt. Inhaltlich ginge es in „Gravedigger“, so Isabell „um selbstzerstörerische Lebensweisen, die so manche*n in den Wahnsinn treiben“ – auch, aber nicht nur im Rock’n’Roll.“
Hinter dem für eine Punkband perfekten Namen SUCK stecken Isabell (Gesang, Synthesizer), Jakob (Gitarre, Bass) und Patrick (Schlagzeug und Gesang), die „Ribbit“ noch in dieser Besetzung einspielte. Kurz nach den Aufnahmen holte die Band ihren Kumpel Nils als Bassisten an Bord. Er wird ab sofort – auf der Bühne und im Studio – SUCK komplettieren und damit Jakob von seiner Doppelschicht an Bass und Gitarre erlösen. Mit „Gravedigger“ wollen SUCK nun die Vorfreude auf ihr Debütalbum „Ribbit“ wecken, das am 23.09.2022 erscheinen wird. Wobei das Wort „Debüt“ hier auf den ersten Blick ein wenig in die Irre führt, denn gut die Hälfte der zwölf Songs sind bereits auf der EP „Frog“ aus dem Jahr 2019 zu finden. Allerdings haben SUCK diese Stücke neu aufgenommen und in diesen Aufnahmen endlich diese krasse Energie eingefangen, die ihre Liveshows auszeichnet. Jakob meint deshalb: „Es ist also schon als Debüt gemeint. Wir haben lange überlegt: Wie cool finden wir es selbst, die alten Sachen auf die Platte zu packen? Jetzt sind wir aber froh, dass wir es gemacht haben.“ Patrick ergänzt: „Die Songs sind eben gut. Wir sind stolz auf sie. Aber als wir die EP damals aufgenommen hatten, fehlte uns noch der Live-Test. Durch die vielen Konzerte hat sich ihr Sound nun noch einmal gravierend verändert und die unser Produzent Felix Margraf hat diese Energie diesmal viel besser einfangen können.“ Die neue Single „Gravedigger“ ist trotzdem ein neuer Song. Jakob sagt dazu: „Die Songs auf ‚Ribbit‘ sind alle sehr unterschiedlich. ‚Gravedigger‘ ist so eine schnelle Punkkeule, die zwar neu geschrieben wurde, aber an die härteren Stücke auf der ‚Frog‘-EP anknüpft. Und trotzdem zeigt sie, dass wir uns weiterentwickelt haben.“ Vor dem Release von „Ribbit“ wird im Sommer noch ein weitere Single erscheinen, die ebenfalls deutlich macht, dass SUCK die Pandemie gut überstanden und eine Energie gefunden haben, die man am liebsten sofort vor einer Bühne in einem schwitzigen Club erleben möchte.
